[If he sounds fully sincere, that's because he genuinely is—for the most part. Even if Scott had been combative, that was no true excuse for leaving the boy to fend for himself. If he truly believed in the good in people, it would be hard for him to think of everyone in Scott's path simply letting him struggle on his own.

But it's not a surprise to him that others would leave. The reasons could be anything from impatience to selfishness to a simple lack of caring. People are worthless no matter what world they're from; that had been proven quickly enough after he got here, and this is only further confirmation. He could ask how long Scott has been here, but it's ultimately irrelevant. What's more important to know...]


... have you been without your vision for long? [He'll keep it more vague for now since the medics are still within earshot, regarding Scott's powers; he doesn't know if the young man wants to immediately be known as the one who destroyed that creature. No doubt rumors are spreading even now about those red beams.]
