chimericalclaw: (a: no)

[Surprise might be one word for it.

He'd prepared for something, certainly. Lasers require a great deal of energy, so the sound itself isn't unexpected so much as the intensity of the noise. But mostly, it's the absolute force of the attack that surpasses his usually impressive self control, and he jolts in shock. He at least has enough focus not to let it affect where he's aiming the young man.

How in the world was he keeping all of that in check with merely his eyelids?

A question to ask later. For now: the creature takes the hit almost directly, screeching in pain loud enough to rattle what glass remains after it crashes into the surrounding buildings. But it's not down yet, and its attention has been drawn very directly towards the ones finally able to tear past its defenses. Even as the two of them try to keep the beams focused, the monster is just clever enough to move to the side, blocking further attacks with its hardier scales and some of the ruined buildings.

Before it even advances towards them, Altius makes a judgment. With how quickly those enormous legs can carry it, no matter how much it might be struggling or how powerful the boy's powers, they can't stay here.]

Close them!

[He's not waiting to see if Scott will follow the command. He's already moving to bodily pick up the boy and dart further into an alleyway to escape the thing's advance while they still can.

Not that he plans to leave the job half-done, mind you. They simply need one more opportunity, and he's certain the force of another attack like that will kill the thing for good. But he's going to need to get them into the right position.]
