[It seems clear to Zekarion with that notable pause that the young man is starting to realize what he's getting into, even as he attempts to seem confident. False bravado isn't an uncommon trait in people that age, he thinks. He's seen it both in his own team years ago and in the more recent group—but when you're facing danger like this, it's a better option than cowering.

He doesn't respond to the bait; he simply ushers Scott forward with concise direction on when there's rubble or a potential misstep in the way that he can't simply move the boy around and avoid.

The cacophony of the creature's destruction is clearer as they approach, and though the screaming of civilians fades in turn, it's replaced by cut off shouts, barked orders and the occasional gunfire. It's only a minute or two before the thing is in sight. Zekarion notes that the monster likely wouldn't have any trouble tearing through the barricades, even if they're enhanced by whatever magic or technology the locals use; that it's staying in one spot says to him that it must have a particular goal in this area. Not that any of that matters—he can investigate that later, when it's dead.

The two of them remain unnoticed for now, the officers nearby too distracted by the thing in front of them to worry about any ill-advised approach from behind. Zekarion doesn't bother to question whether he'll need to direct the young man's "lasers." He simply places a hand above and behind Scott's ear to show that he's prepared to do so.]

How precise do we need to be?
